Benjamin Grosvenor’s Liszt recording (Decca, 2020) has been selected for Classica magazine’s prestigious Chocs de l’année 2021.
The magazine selects 15 exceptional recordings each year for inclusion in the awards. In his review for the magazine, Alain Lompech writes:
“[Grosvenor’s] mastery is as subtle as that of Benno Moiseiwitsch, Guiomar Novaes, Josef Hofmann, or Solomon in their time .. he illuminates the slightest detail without underlining it, while being attentive to the great continuous form … What can be said of the rare and Chopinian Berceuse and the Petrarch Sonnets? From the piano rises a song of princely eloquence, a mystical atmosphere, a miracle of purely pianistic beauty.”
This latest accolade comes after Liszt was awarded a Diapason d’Or ("incredible distinction and delicacy and shortlisted for the 2021 Gramophone Awards.
